By Jenny Fleming

Strong Winds
swallow the sounds
suffocate the memories
imprisoning inside

I feel pushed
and pulled
relentless barrage
of ever present sorrow
falls about me.
fat drops,
Hard rain punishes
Anger gathers like storm clouds
rumbling overhead

Darkness comes early
brings an invisible cloak
laden with fear.
The winter dark beckons me
to its breast
We are seasoned companions
Tiredness scrambles senses
The nightmares herald their approach
bringing forth the Monster of shadow.
I dare not move a muscle.

The scratch against window
of creaking branches
marshalls the fear
I’d rather not host.
laying frozen like stone,
I wait for the approach
Of winters sun.
